Last Friday, our Director, Carl Obst, attended the Ocean Decade event Australia’s Ocean Opportunity. The Governor-General, Her Excellency Sam Mostyn AC hosted the event at Admiralty House in Sydney.
The event included the launch of Ocean in the Boardroom, a new paper developed by Ocean Decade Australia with the University of Sydney.
The paper explores how Australian boards are beginning to focus on the way that:
- ocean systems underpin national prosperity, resilience and cultural identity
- nature and natural capital – across terrestrial, freshwater, atmospheric and ocean systems – are rapidly emerging as material governance, risk and strategic considerations
- regulatory reform, investor scrutiny, evolving disclosure frameworks, and accelerating physical and transition risks are reshaping expectations of board oversight and decision-making.
We look forward to exploring these topics and more at the Ocean Business Leaders’ Summit in Cairns in June 2026.
