IDEEA Group understands that natural resource managers are doing everything they can to ensure the long-term health and viability of ecosystems, but it can be challenging to describe the results they are achieving in a reliable, systematic way. Natural resource managers (NRMs) can use a natural capital approach to describe their results. A natural capital approach provides a common language to tell clear and consistent stories about the outcomes we are achieving for nature. Each Natural Capital Roadmap is a customised plan for an organisation, helping them to describe natural capital approaches for the:

  • unique geographic area they work in
  • strategic goals each organisation is working towards
  • needs of the stakeholders – both internal and external.

We are currently working with several NRM organisations around Australia, including:

  • South Coast Natural Resource Management in WA
  • North Central Catchment Management Authority in Victoria
  • Cradle Coast in Tasmania
  • Corangamite Catchment Management Authority in Victoria
  • Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority in Victoria.

Natural Capital Roadmaps - IDEEA Group resourcesImplementing natural capital accounting requires the combination of various methods and data sources. The roadmap process is designed to help each organisation (or groups of organisations) establish their readiness for natural capital accounting and describe the options available to them for moving forward. The roadmap process also helps to explain what natural capital accounting is to a range of stakeholders and to assess where an organisation is on their natural capital journey.
