IDEEA Group is very excited to announce that we’ve joined The Aotearoa Circle – a unique public-private partnership, with a vision of enduring prosperity for future generations in Aotearoa New Zealand.

They believe that vision is possible by restoring and protecting Aotearoa’s natural resources with the backing of public and private sector Partners.

As one of the new Partners in the Circle, IDEEA Group is delighted to contribute our expertise in natural capital accounting.

Our Director, Carl Obst, says:

‘It is exciting to have the opportunity to contribute our experience and expertise to a partnership that is not only committed to enduring prosperity but also committed to a way of working that is collaborative and seeks to build shared capacity across the public and private sectors and across different disciplines. We are very much looking forward to the journey.’

Vicki Watson, Chief Executive of The Aotearoa Circle, says IDEEA Group’s expertise in natural capital accounting fits with the Circle’s ambition to embed nature at the centre of economic decision-making.

‘We’re moving at pace to remove barriers to restoring nature, our greatest economic asset which is why recognising and measuring the value of natural capital is critical. If nature is reflected on balance sheets, it drives smarter investment, builds resilience and unlocks economic opportunity. We’re looking forward to working with Carl and the team at the IDEEA Group to realise these opportunities with our other partners across both the public and private sectors.’

Natural Infrastructure PlanThis week, The Aotearoa Circle launched the Natural Infrastructure Plan – a response to the New Zealand Government’s National Infrastructure Plan. With the intention of bringing nature into focus as a key component of New Zealand’s infrastructure, the question raised through the is no longer whether we can afford to invest in natural infrastructure but rather whether we can afford not to.

Launched on 4 March at the New Zealand Parliament, the Natural Infrastructure Plan provides an excellent example of how business, government and the community can work together to protect, restore and benefit from New Zealand’s natural resources.
